2016 Year of the Monkey Art 365-16-1

Happy New Year!!!!  Guess what?  It’s the Year of the Monkey!!  How cool is that?

To celebrate here is my first Art 365-16 sketch— a stuffed monkey!

He is painted on a Strathmore Aquarius insert in my Midori. I used a new super spiff Frankenpen that I just made and LURVVVVV!  I followed an awesome tutorial at Parka blogs to remove the nib from a Jinhao x750 and replace it with a Zebra G nib.  So flexy, it’s like a vintage wet-noodle pen, but cheap so I can use Carbon ink in it with no worries!

Try out the pen mod, it’s amazing.

    Hi,
I have a question! You are a Christian, right and your little monkey is very cute, but when you say, “it’s the year of the monkey “, aren’t you promoting something unbiblical? I want to know because I like your work!!
    Thank you so much!!!

Gale, you are absolutely right and I stand corrected and humbled. When I painted and posted this I thought of “The Year of the Monkey” as nothing more or equal to a Hallmark holiday/greeting like ‘Happy Secratary’s Day!’. However, you are correct and the designations for Chinese years are rooted in astrology, something the Bible forbids Christians from involving themselves in. I think we can acknowledge this holiday and its meaning for people who believe in it like we do other nonChristian holidays such as Ramadan, Hannakuh, etc without celebrating or promoting it. I know I will definitely not be doing a post next year that could be construed as promoting this. However, I think I will leave this post and comments up in the hope that it will raise questions in the minds of other believers and start a dialog. What do you think?

A Who Christmas Tree

While browsing on DeviantArt (not as diabolical as the name sounds- the site originally was folks who took computer applications and ‘deviated’ them from their original purpose) I found a cute stock photo by Pink-Stock  titled Whoville Tree: Adorable right?  Well, being the rabid Dr. Who fan that I am the name immediately made me […]

Closeup view of a watercolor of cattails by RaSonya Pearce

Cattail Explosion

The cattails exploding with fluffy seeds along our walking trail were so captivating that I couldn’t resist painting them– The weather here in the Midwest has been swinging wildly between bitter cold and balmy warm days.  The day I took this photo I was able to go walking in a t-shirt, in January!!! When I […]

New! Free Video- Paint Christmas Ornaments

Hi guys!  I just put up another FREE video over at the classroom. My favorite colors are blue and green so it is no surprise that I love blue Christmas ornaments.  I think they look sooo pretty against the green tree branches. I did this little painting (with some added Photoshop magic) for my Christmas […]
