Acts 2:3, Art 365-16-136

Today is Pentecost Sunday so this Sunday’s Bible journalling is Acts 2:3-

1When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Grilling Out, Art 365-16-135

Summer is officially here for the Pearce family!  DH and R4 fired up the grill today, Yay!!

Grilling Out, Art 365-16-135, RaSonya Pearce, www.FaithworksArtStudio.com

The duo made lots and lots of grilled yummies while R1, R2, and R3 were all slaving away at their summer jobs and I made side dishes. (Grilling is man’s work, LOL!)  It was a nice treat for everyone when they all eventually got home.   Plus, we had so much left over I don’t have to cook on Sunday, YAY!!

Inky Rooster, Art 365-16-134

For Art 365-16-134, here is a scribbly, inky rooster:

Inky Rooster, Art 365-16-134, RaSonya Pearce, www.FaithworksArtStudio.com

Scribbling away with the dip pen is more fun than I would have imagined!  I always thought it would be inconvenient to have to stop and reink the nib, but in reality it’s not.  When the ink gets low the line is lighter and when the nib is full, of course, it’s darker.  That creates the perfect opportunity  to play with the ink line and weight!

I’m tempted to add watercolor to him.  What do you think?

Mother’s Day Rose, Art 365-16-133

Yesterday I drew a daisy from my Mother’s Day bouquet from the kiddos, so today it’s a rose from DH’s bouquet:

Mother's Day Rose, Art 365-16-133, RaSonya Pearce, www.FaithworksArtStudio.com

I love the smell of roses!!  I can’t help but take a nice deep breath every time I pass by the vase.  It reminds me of my favorite perfume, Evelyn Rose by Crabtree and Evelyn.  I wore that every day for years.  Sadly, it was reformulated in 2012 and not only smells different but DH sneezed like crazy whenever I wore it.  Now I’m in what seems like a never-ending search to find the perfect rose perfume to replace it.  Jo Malone Red Roses is close and what I currently wear and R3 loves Tea Rose by Perfumer’s Workshop.  Anybody out there with a favorite rose perfume to recommend?

Daisies, Art 365-16-132

Who doesn’t love a bunch of colorful daisies?

Daisies, Art 365-16-132, RaSonya Pearce, www.FaithworksArtStudio.com

My family knows me so well.  On Mother’s Day DH brought me a dozen red roses because I’m old-fashioned and love the classics.  The kiddos, on the other hand, got me a bouquet of the brightest colored daisies and sunflowers they could find because I love fun, crazy things that make me smile.  I know it’s kinda weird having two almost opposite likes, but I never claimed to be normal, LOL!!

Copper Pup ala Danielle, Art 365-16-131

This little copper pup ala Danielle was a great way to test out a few Daniel Smith watercolors I just bought!

I wish the camera could do him justice.  I used Interference Copper, Iridescent Copper and Rare Green Earth in the pup and in real life he looks all sparkly and reminds me of oxidized copper.  For some reason, with his simple shape he brings to mind Native American fetish carvings.  You know, the rounded, simple bears? What do you think?

New Toy, Art 365-16-130

I don’t know about you, but I can’t go to Hobby Lobby without buying some new toy.  This time it was a Tim Holz splatter brush.  I can’t say how well it works as I had an art craving for an old-fashioned ink wash drawing for today’s Art 365.

I used the remainder of a Goulet ink sample, Waterman’s Blue I think, and my Desiderata Daedalus.  The Daedulus is such a cool, minimalist pen.  No bells or whistles, just a matte black Delrin eyedropper pen with a Zebra G nib.  It looks like a stealth pen, the way it sucks in the light.  Of course, I love the flexy G nib but being an eyedropper fill is pretty nifty also.  I can use tiny samples in it easily and it’s great for testing out new inks.

Psalm 113:9, Art 365-16-129

Happy Mother’s Day!!  I wanted to pick a special verse to do today, Psalm 113:9:

He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the Lord!

Psalm 113:9 ESV

This is a very special verse to me as I struggled with infertility before being blessed with my first child.  For several years early in our marriage I slogged along frustrated, angry, weepy and gloomy as we tried to have a baby.  Then my church had a ladies Bible study on Isaiah 40:31 led by one  the most godly and wonderful women I’ve been privileged to know.

The study was all about waiting on the Lord’s timing and trusting Him.

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Isaiah 40:31 KJV

As we went through the study I found peace.  I was able to ‘let go and let God’ take control.  I was even able to spend time with my newly pregnant friend without bursting into tears.

Then a miracle happened.

I got poison ivy.

Yeah, I know.  That doesn’t sound like a miracle.  Trust me, it was.  I used to play in the stuff as a kid in our woods and never got an itch while my brother and sister had to be dipped in Calamine lotion afterwards.  Anyways, my rash was so bad that I had to get a prescription from the doctor, but first she asked if I could be pregnant.  I laughed at that, much like Sarah, and told her of our infertility struggles.  She told me they had an amazing doctor right downstairs in her building and her office set up an appointment the next day.  One visit and one round of Clomid later and I was pregnant with our first baby!  (You can imagine the celebration as we finished our Bible study with this good news!)

I was pregnant with our miracle baby. All because I got poison ivy.

Mmm, not really.  More like I let go and stopped trying to do things in my own strength and knowledge and rested in God’s.  I finally gave up my hopes and my expectations and surrendered to what He wanted for my life and to His timing.  And guess what?  He blessed me beyond my wildest dreams with four amazing children!!!

I know not all prayers are answered like mine was.  In fact, looking back I am glad God said no to some of my requests.  I’ve learned to trust, that like a loving parent, He has my best interests at heart and will  do what is right for my life.

Sun Flower, Art 365-16-128

I had the urge tonight to grab a dip pen and do something fun and spontaneous.  I know, dip pens aren’t usually what I picture when I think of spontaneous, but hey, why argue with your muse?  Actually a dip pen isn’t much different than using a fountain pen.  Just grab a bottle of ink, fill ‘er up and get drawing.  Of course, if your clumsy like me you need to mind the bottle and not knock it over.  (Trust me, I once spilled Levenger Emerald Green ink all over the inside of an oak roll top desk while filling a fountain pen- be careful with bottles of ink!)

Blue Beary, Art 365-16-127

I love puns and plays on words, the cornier the better.  So tonight, since I can’t resist even a visual pun, I present Blue Beary!

I’m always experimenting, (I was a biochemist, ya know) so I broke out the India Ink and a vintage dip pen for this little guy.  Of course, the first thing to happen was a giant ink drop fell on him and I had to scrape it off.  Thank goodness for my little pen knife!

A Who Christmas Tree

While browsing on DeviantArt (not as diabolical as the name sounds- the site originally was folks who took computer applications and ‘deviated’ them from their original purpose) I found a cute stock photo by Pink-Stock  titled Whoville Tree: Adorable right?  Well, being the rabid Dr. Who fan that I am the name immediately made me […]

Closeup view of a watercolor of cattails by RaSonya Pearce

Cattail Explosion

The cattails exploding with fluffy seeds along our walking trail were so captivating that I couldn’t resist painting them– The weather here in the Midwest has been swinging wildly between bitter cold and balmy warm days.  The day I took this photo I was able to go walking in a t-shirt, in January!!! When I […]
