Direct to Ink Practice, Art 365-16-10

For Art 365-16 today, I decided to do jump in straight with ink and make a few quick sketches.  What a humbling experience!!  I discovered drawing directly in ink wasn’t as easy as it once was for me. I have been using pencil and painting so much that I have lost my eye.  The only remedy for that is too practice more. I highly recommend trying Brenda Swenson’s 75 Day Direct to Ink Challenge.  Even though I am rusty now, drawing in ink directly for 75 days improved my art and eye more than anything else ever has.  After my oldest boys got hurt in a wreck life got put on hold for over a year, when I finally came back to art I had lost my artist’s hand-eye connection.  To get it back, I redid Brenda’s challenge but with a twist.  Every night I drew faces from Paint My Photo in soluble brush pen on toned paper with chalk for highlights.  I got my coordination back and learned to work quickly on toned paper, great for field sketching!!

There will be a lot more of these quick, direct to ink practice sketches in my future until I redevelop my hand-eye coordination.

A Who Christmas Tree

While browsing on DeviantArt (not as diabolical as the name sounds- the site originally was folks who took computer applications and ‘deviated’ them from their original purpose) I found a cute stock photo by Pink-Stock  titled Whoville Tree: Adorable right?  Well, being the rabid Dr. Who fan that I am the name immediately made me […]

Closeup view of a watercolor of cattails by RaSonya Pearce

Cattail Explosion

The cattails exploding with fluffy seeds along our walking trail were so captivating that I couldn’t resist painting them– The weather here in the Midwest has been swinging wildly between bitter cold and balmy warm days.  The day I took this photo I was able to go walking in a t-shirt, in January!!! When I […]

New! Free Video- Paint Christmas Ornaments

Hi guys!  I just put up another FREE video over at the classroom. My favorite colors are blue and green so it is no surprise that I love blue Christmas ornaments.  I think they look sooo pretty against the green tree branches. I did this little painting (with some added Photoshop magic) for my Christmas […]
