January 1, 2016 by RaSonya

Hello 2016!!! I’m psyched for Art 365-2016!!!

Yay!  It is officially January 1, 2016.  Time for the FUN to begin!

My REALLY big resolution for 2016 is to sketch or paint every day this year,  Art 365-2016!  Gulp, crazy big goal.

Art Journal rules www.FaithworksArtStudio.com

Actually, it’s not as crazy as it sounds.  I’ve attempted (and even completed!) other long art challenges: Every Day in May several times, Thing-A-Day,  30 Paintings in 30 Days, Brenda Swenson’s 75 Day Draw Directly in Ink Challenge, my personal Lenten series and sketching every day in 2011 until my oldest sons were in a near fatal crash and art became the last thing on my mind until they recovered.

Yes, I have flunked out of a few challenges.  I’ve learned that I do not stick with those where the subject matter is already chosen for me.  I do best if I choose my topics and learn a new skill along the way like the first EDinM that I did where I taught myself to draw chibis, or another EdinM that I used to sharpen my architecture drawing skills.

I have also learned that the only way to succeed at a massive, long term art challenge is to plan ahead, handcuff and gag my inner critic and let go of perfectionism (REEEALLLLLY let go), and to have the support of my family and friends.  It is such a blessing to know people believe in you and are cheering you on and holding you accountable.

I find I am very excited and looking forward to this challenge, despite knowing how hectic and crazy and even tedious it will be at times.  There is an energy that comes from tackling a grand goal like a 365 day project, it just buzzes with potential!

So buckle up, it looks like 2016 is going to be one wild, crazy ride!!

As always, remember faith works!

A Who Christmas Tree

While browsing on DeviantArt (not as diabolical as the name sounds- the site originally was folks who took computer applications and ‘deviated’ them from their original purpose) I found a cute stock photo by Pink-Stock  titled Whoville Tree: Adorable right?  Well, being the rabid Dr. Who fan that I am the name immediately made me […]

Closeup view of a watercolor of cattails by RaSonya Pearce

Cattail Explosion

The cattails exploding with fluffy seeds along our walking trail were so captivating that I couldn’t resist painting them– The weather here in the Midwest has been swinging wildly between bitter cold and balmy warm days.  The day I took this photo I was able to go walking in a t-shirt, in January!!! When I […]

New! Free Video- Paint Christmas Ornaments

Hi guys!  I just put up another FREE video over at the classroom. My favorite colors are blue and green so it is no surprise that I love blue Christmas ornaments.  I think they look sooo pretty against the green tree branches. I did this little painting (with some added Photoshop magic) for my Christmas […]
