For Art 365 today, I decided to try a new medium – acrylic paint. Painting this snowman in acrylic was so odd after doing watercolor for years. Being able to paint over and cover up previous layers is a totally new thing for me and really pretty nifty. I see a lot of possibilities for this. Painting in acrylic over colored pastel paper, like this blue-grey Canson Mi-Teintes, puts a fun little pop of color into my Midori! It will be interesting to see how acrylic paint survives being folded and lugged about in a Midori insert. As fun as working in acrylic was, I can’t think of a way I’d be able to use this in the field. Gouache would probably be similar and usable on site… Definitely worth looking into. So far though, I don’t see how either could match watercolor’s delicate transparency, but they each have their strengths.
Remember, faith works!
